(Port) Wine of the month February 2020: Fonseca Vintage Ports 1976+1977
Many Port-lovers would make the decision by the year long before they open the bottle: 1977 is a fully declared year, Fonseca award-winning and fully declare whereas 1976 was otherwise rather lean…
1977: Dark-red, fresh color. Spicy and complex bouquet with a lot of years to come. Malt, milk-chocolate and intense red-berry fruit. The palate has a creamy structure with much intensity and tobacco. Perfectly balanced. Very long and well-balanced aftertaste. 19/20
1976: Non-transparent(!) dark-red color with an even more intense core. Also spicy with some floral hints on the nose. Some residual fruit and tobacco. Soft tannins on the palate and perfectly integrated acidity. Fresh and structured. Long aftertaste. 18/20
